The City of Pointe-Claire and Stewart Hall Cultural Centre are pleased to invite you to the Geopoetics vernissage on Sunday, June 11, 2017, from 1 to 5 p.m. Geopoetics is a program of cultural activities at the Stewart Hall Cultural Centre that has been specially designed as a summer-long celebration of the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation.
A large-scale event, Geopoetics will be on display both inside and outside the Stewart Hall Art Gallery. This sumptuous building will house a summer exhibition that explores the idea of movement in the construction of our country. Geopoetics then continues into the neighbouring park where a large number of outdoor art installations will be on view. Curator Kasia Basta has brought together works by 25 artists from all parts of Canada with the objective of encouraging the community to engage in a collective reflection on and celebration of Canada, its identity and its territory.
A number of these works resulted from the involvement of thousands of people of all ages who participated in lively discussions over recent months and shared their cultural images. The project is the fruit of these exchanges. Throughout the vernissage, visitors will be invited to follow their intuition to discover the outline of a poetic geography that is an integral part of our vast landscape and of a mixed population that is always on the move.
Invitation to the vernissage of Geopoetics
Taking place in a festive ambiance, this vernissage will provide an opportunity for you to meet all the participating artists and inaugurate a new piece of public art, Les ombres claires, by André Dubois. This work will be a permanent legacy of the 150th anniversary celebrations to the residents of Pointe-Claire. A performance by artist Mélissa Simard and two public piano sequences with Roman Zavada will also enliven the day. In addition, you will be invited to participate in various creative workshops and relive the lullabies of your childhood during the recording sessions of Bercer le temps (registration required).
Developed with and for the community, the celebrations will continue at the Stewart Hall Cultural Centre until October 15, 2017. Complete details of the activities can be found in the Culture Pointe-Claire brochure and at
www.geopoetics.ca.
